NATIONAL welterweight boxer Aaron Prince will not join super heavyweight Nigel Paul at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games in August.

On Thursday, Prince lost to Great Britain’s Joshua Kelly in the quarterfinals at the AIBA Olympic Qualifiaction Event in Baku, Azerbaijan.

As a result Prince needed Kelly to win the welterweight division to qualify for the Olympics with the fifth spot in the division.

Unfortunately, Kelly lost in the semifinals on Friday to Souleymane Diop Cissokho of France eliminating Prince from Olympic contention. Trinidad and Tobago boxer Paul booked a place in the Olympics after qualifying for the final of the Americas Zone Olympic Qualifying tournament in Argentina in March.

Lightweight Michael Alexander, light heavyweight Andrew Fermin, light welterweight Jean Paul Cooper and bantanweight Anthony Joseph all represented TT in the qualifying tournament in Azerbaijan, but were all eliminated from Olympic contention after losing earlier in the tournament.
